An excursion to one of the oldest monasteries in Moldova – Capriana (Căpriana).
🏡 The monastery lies in a valley of stunning beauty, surrounded on three sides by wooded hills. The monastery complex consists of three churches, the abbot's house (built in 1826), artesian wells decorated in the national style, and an old monastery cemetery.
🏡 Capriana Monastery was a center of medieval culture. For a long time it was the residence of the Metropolitan of Moldova; it enjoyed the patronage of the hospodars, including Stefan cel Mare; here lived Eftimie, chronicler of the Moldavian Land and the first court chronicler of Al. Lapusneanu, as well as Ciprian, one of Moldova's first poets. The monastery kept the largest library in Moldova and precious gifts from the hospodars.
