About this place
On one of its trips, the Visit.md team found in the village of Rusestii Noi an unfinished but very original restaurant built in the style of a “Fairy Tale Glade”. It's a great pity its owners never managed to finish what they started.
According to the documents containing the earliest date concerning the village's existence, it appeared at the beginning of the 14th century, namely on 10 April 1524. In the oldest documents the village appears under the names Ruși and Rusești. The village's name is clearly connected with the words Rus, Rusu, Rușii. It is said that, right from the village's founding, a priest came here from across the Dniester. There is no knowing whether he was actually Russian — he may well have been Romanian — but the fact that he came from across the Dniester led people to call him Rus, and from there the whole village came to be called Rusu's Village, and then Rusești. The real name of this priest is unknown. To this day some family names mentioned in the census have survived, such as Ghimp, Stăvilă, Meșină or Cucu, named as the oldest family names in the village.
